How did he get here and what does he do now?

Steven White has studied and performed music his entire life. His career includes playing in many genres and he performs and composes as a multi-instrumentalist.

Steven’s influences reach beyond bassists Jimmy Haslip, Charles Mingus and Michael Manring and include artists from other fields: Joni Mitchell, Joan Miro and Bucky Fuller.

His recent work as a composer is with Wisconsin filmmakers, digital cinema artists and choreographers. This work includes sound design, editing and mixing.

Steven’s latest projects are leader of his jazz trio Terrazzo and protege in the MARNmentor Program.  He is currently composing new material in the vein of The Lost Traveler, his piece performed at this year’s MARNmentor Show. This music will be recorded in fall of this year and performed by his ensemble Liquid In Plastic at a concert in Milwaukee along with the work of other local composers. And Steven recently started composing pieces for solo bass guitar to be performed using laptop looping technology.
